T H E R E F U G E S T O R Y.
Welcome!
I’m Casey, founder and curator of REFUGE INTERIORS. I’m so happy you are here!
This small business has evolved so much over the years, but one thing has never changed - my love for creating beautiful spaces and sourcing beautiful pieces, a desire that was placed on my heart at a very young age.
Inherited Passion:
Interior decorating has been part of my life as far back as I can remember. Growing up, my mom worked as an interior decorator and sold home decor. I remember watching as she would facilitate home shows and style spaces with her beautiful pieces. I always loved playing with all the decor, and would spend hours (literally) decorating anything I could. From our Barbie house, to my childhood bedroom, to my college apartment, to my first home - decorating has been my passion all my life and continues to bring me immense joy today. I am so grateful to have the opportunity to share this passion with all of you.
Simple and Scattered Beginnings:
The Refuge Story really began back in 2019, when I bought and flipped my first piece of vintage furniture. I created an Etsy shop, called it REFUGE INTERIORS, and listed my one item. The piece sold quickly and that single sale ignited a passion that would grow and evolve over the next several years.
At first, REFUGE INTERIORS was something I occasionally did on the side, while still working my full time job. I bought and flipped a furniture piece or two, but I very quickly realized that flipping furniture as a business wasn’t where my heart was. I loved working with my hands, but remembering my passion as a young girl, it was decorating that had my heart.
A New Vision:
I have spent years sourcing antiques. For me, creating beautiful interiors begins with curating beautiful pieces. When I bought my first home, visiting antique stores became part of my lifestyle. I loved filling my home with collected pieces that had history and told a story all their own. When I met my husband, his love of history and learning only continued to add fuel to my antiquing passion. Sourcing antiques became something we could enjoy together and styling them in our home was my favorite part.
Decorating my home had always been my outlet where I could retreat and create - my refuge - and styling with pieces my husband and I found together made the experience even better.
Over the next few years, REFUGE INTERIORS continued to evolve as I evolved. In 2020, I began getting serious about learning as much as I could about building a small business and brand and in 2021, I took on my first design project. Over the next couple years, my husband and I started really planning for me to make a move toward following my dream. I began putting more into building my business, refining my skills, starting my website, building my confidence and overcoming lingering self-doubt. Then, in 2023, after taking what felt like years of baby steps, I finally went all in on my dream…and the rest is history.
